Lumora Motion – User Guide

Your pictures. In motion. Lumora Motion is a product of ortegamedia & style.

1. Welcome

Lumora Motion turns your photos and videos into a film. You put the files into a folder, choose a title, music and flow, and export an MP4 video. The video plays on TVs, computers, phones and social networks.

The version number of the app is shown in the footer of the window, for example “Lumora Motion v1.0”. You will need this number when contacting support.

You choose the language of the app with the small flags on the start page. The choice is kept until you change it again.

2. Getting started

Project folder

A project is a folder. Everything that belongs to the film lives inside it. The app never changes your originals. It only writes into the subfolders .lumora-motion (working data) and export (finished film).

Start Lumora Motion.
Choose “Choose Project Folder …” from the menu and create a new folder, for example “Holidays 2026”.
Copy photos and videos into this folder. The app picks up new files by itself (watch folder). Alternatively click “Upload files” and select the files in the dialog. They are copied into the project folder.

Supported formats: JPG, PNG, HEIC (iPhone), MOV and MP4.

Auto

The “Auto” button sets all settings at once. Choose one of the four presets:

Memories: calm images, soft cross-fades, for family, retrospectives and anniversaries.
Aftermovie: fast cuts, strong motion, for events, sports and parties.
Social: portrait 9:16, short hold times, for Reels, TikTok and Shorts.
Presentation: clear stills, subtle transitions, for talks and projectors.

You can change every setting by hand afterwards. If you have already sorted the timeline by hand, the app asks whether auto mode should re-sort it. If the Design Pack Basic is activated, the title and end cards also get the matching template: Memories → Family, Aftermovie → Modern, Social → Travel, Presentation → Presentation.

Saving and opening a project

Save: menu “Save Project” or Cmd+S (Mac) / Ctrl+S (Windows). The app stores the file projekt.lumo in the project folder.
Open: menu “Open Project …” or double-click projekt.lumo in the Finder or Explorer.
Additional files simply go into the folder later. They are appended to the end of the timeline.

3. Start page

The start page shows all settings on the left and the preview of the cards on the right. The blocks “Title card”, “Closing card”, “Flow” and “Music” open when you click their title. Only one block is open at a time.

Format

At the top you choose the format:

16:9 landscape – 1920 × 1080, for TV, projector and YouTube.
9:16 portrait – 1080 × 1920, for Reels, TikTok and Shorts.

The active row is highlighted. New projects start with 16:9.

Title card

The title card is the opening of the film. On the right of the block title you see the duration in seconds and the on/off switch. When switched off, the film starts directly with the first photo.

Enter the title and optionally a subtitle (for example date, place).
Choose “Font” and “Subtitle font”. Bundled fonts and system fonts are available.
Set “Size” and “Subtitle size” with the slider.
Choose the “Text colour”: white, anthracite, petrol or a colour of your own.
Set the “Text position” on the grid (top, centre, bottom × left, centre, right) or drag the text in the preview to where you want it.
Choose the background: “Photo” (an image from the project or an uploaded file) or “Colour”. With “Photo”, rotate the image in 90° steps using “Rotate left” / “Rotate right” – the rotation applies to the preview, the real-time preview and the export.
Under “Logo / element”, place an image on the card, for example a logo: “Choose image …” (PNG with transparency or JPG; the app stores a copy in the project folder under “elemente”). Then set the “Size” as a percentage of the card width (5–60 %, default 20 %), the “Position” in the grid or by dragging in the preview, and the “Opacity” (10–100 %). “Change image” swaps the file, “Remove” takes the element away. The element sits above the background and below the text and fades in together with the text – in the preview, the real-time preview and the export, in landscape as well as portrait.
With the Design Pack Basic (plugin or full version) the row “Template” appears at the top with six tiles: Classic, Modern, Elegant, Family, Presentation, Travel. One click applies colours, font pair, sizes, position, badge and an ornament (line, bar, frame, flourish, corner, compass) – everything stays editable afterwards; the chosen tile remains marked, “Reset to template” brings the template back. Without activation the tiles are greyed out, with a note and “View on vrf.ch”.

The preview on the right shows the card exactly as it will appear in the film.

Closing card

The closing card works the same way as the title card. Switch it on with the switch in the block title. In addition there is “Black afterwards”: the time in seconds the film stays black after the card. 0 means a hard ending.

Flow

Photo duration: visible hold time per photo. Transitions are added on top.
Transition: Hard cut, Cross-fade, Fade through black, Fade through white, Blur dissolve, Soft wipe, Wipe, Slide, Cover or Zoom. Next to it the transition duration in seconds (0.1–5 s); it applies to every transition without its own duration. If transitions in the timeline have their own duration, a note below says so. The plugin Transitions Pack Plus (or the full version) adds 18 more transitions (chapter 7, Plugins); without activation they are greyed out in the list. If a project uses a Plus transition this installation does not have, “Cross-fade” is used – a note below the selection says so.
Images: “Fit (whole image)” shows the whole image; where it does not fill the frame, the background lies underneath (next item). “Fill (crop)” fills the format and crops the edges.
Background when fitting: “Colour” (default black; colour picker with black, anthracite, teal, white or a free colour) or “Blurred” (the image itself, blurred, behind the picture – as before). Applies to all photos and videos in “Fit”; can be overridden per tile in the timeline (chapter 4).
Motion: Ken Burns effect on photos, never on videos. Levels Off, Light, Medium, Strong. Can be overridden per photo in the timeline.
Clip rule: the length videos are trimmed to in auto mode.

Music

Click “Choose music” and select a file (MP3, M4A or WAV).
With “More music” you append further tracks. Change the order with “Move up” and “Move down”. “Remove from list” removes a track from the list, not from your computer.
Level controls the volume in dB. Fade in and Fade out fade the music in and out over the given seconds – this is the default for all tracks; Crossfade is the overlap with which a further track joins the previous one. Each track can be expanded (arrow on the left): Start in the film, Length, its own Fade in/out and Crossfade to previous. You drag the same values directly in the music track of the timeline (chapter 4).
Loop music if too short: the music repeats until the film ends.
Clip audio: “Keep clip audio”, “Clip audio, duck music” or “Mute clips”.

If the music is shorter than the film and looping is off, the app shows a notice. You can then switch on looping or append more music.

Logo over the slideshow

The Logo block places an image over the whole film – above all photos, videos, transitions and title cards. Typically a company logo bottom right, but also a note or a graphic that only sits over a few slides.

Click “Add logo …” and choose a PNG file with transparency (or a JPG). The app stores a copy in the project folder under “elemente”. The logo appears immediately in the preview on the right, bottom right, 15 % wide.
Size: width as a percentage of the film width (5–60 %). This also applies in portrait format.
Position: choose a cell in the 9-grid or drag the logo in the preview to where you want it. “Reset to grid” restores the cell.
Opacity: 10–100 %.
Range: “Whole slideshow” shows the logo from the first to the last frame, including the black at the end. “Section” shows it only between From and To (minutes:seconds, for example 0:12.5). You can drag the same section as a bar in the timeline (chapter 4).
Fade in / Fade out: seconds during which the logo appears and disappears softly at the start and end of the range (default 0.5 s, 0 = instantly).
The switch on the right of the entry turns the layer off without deleting it. “Change image” swaps the file; position and range stay. “Remove” takes the layer out – “… removed” appears at the bottom with Undo (8 seconds).

Several layers are possible, for example a logo over everything and a note graphic over slides 3 to 5. The lowest layer in the list sits on top. Preview, real-time preview and export show the layers identically; a trial-version watermark sits above them.

Text over the slideshow

The Text block places a title with subtitle as a layer over the film – like the logo, above all photos, videos, transitions and title cards, and additionally above the logo layers. This is different from a text card: a text card is its own slide in the sequence, a text layer sits over the running picture.

Click “Add text …”. A layer “New text” appears bottom centre and is immediately visible in the preview on the right.
Title and Subtitle: type the text. Font: the bundled fonts or a system font. Title size and Subtitle size as a number or slider. Text colour with quick picks white, anthracite, teal or a free colour. The row Template (Design Pack Basic) applies font, colours, position and badge of a design template to the text layer (sizes slightly smaller than on cards); editable afterwards, “Reset to template” brings it back.
Badge: the switch places a coloured panel behind the text – with its own colour and opacity (the opacity applies to the panel only, the text stays fully visible). Easy to read on busy photos.
Position: 9-grid or drag the text in the preview. Opacity of the whole layer: 10–100 %.
Range, Fade in and Fade out as for the logo: whole slideshow or a section from/to, fades in seconds.
Switch off = the layer stays but is not shown. “Remove” with Undo (8 seconds).
Animation (plugin “Text on Image” or full version): tiles “No animation” and ten templates – caption (from below), big title (scaling), date/place (from the left), quote with badge (badge grows, then text), chapter (lines one after another), typewriter (character by character), wipe reveal, subtitle bar (bar slides in), soft fade in, bottom-right corner. Hovering a tile shows a small preview; a click applies position, sizes, badge and animation, and next to it you set the duration (0.2–5 s). The animation runs from the start of the range; the layer’s fade in/out apply in addition. Design templates and animations can be combined. Without activation the tiles are greyed out; a project with an animation then shows the text immediately (note in the panel). Render preview, real-time preview and export show the same motion.

Several text layers are possible, for example a name bottom left over the whole film and a note over three slides only. Preview, real-time preview and export show the layers identically.

Image tracks

Above the sequence you can stack further photos: on image tracks in the timeline (chapter 4). An image on a track has a time range, an image area (width and height as a percentage of the output), a position, opacity and fade in/out – like a logo, but with a photo from the project or a file from outside. The tracks are transparent: where no image lies, you see the sequence underneath. Higher tracks sit above lower ones; logo and text sit above all image tracks.

In the panel of an image (right in the timeline) you find: Change image (PNG/JPG file, copied to “elemente”) or Choose from photos (photos of the timeline), Image area (width/height 5–100 %), Crop “Fit” (whole image in the area) or “Fill” (cropped), Rotate in 90° steps, Colour area behind the image (switch, colour, opacity – otherwise the rest of the area stays transparent), Position (9-grid or dragging in the preview), Opacity, Track, Range and Fade in/out.

Load files from LUMORA

This area takes photos straight from a Lumora archive. See chapter 5.

At the bottom of the start page you see the total duration and the estimated file size of the film. “Timeline large” shows the timeline alone in the window, “Export” starts the export.

Timeline next to the start page

At the right edge of the start page sits a narrow teal handle with a double arrow. A click opens the timeline to the right of the start page – filmstrip, image, logo, text and music tracks, the panel of the selected element and the zoom slider, all in the same window. The preview of the start page then shows the film player of the timeline (render or real-time, with playhead); when you open a block on the left such as “Title card” or “Logo”, the timeline jumps to that element. Drag the handle left or right to change the width; another click closes the timeline and the preview becomes large again. The app remembers state and width. If the window is narrower than 1400 pixels, the timeline stays closed (the handle shows the hint) – enlarge the window or use “Timeline large”; from there “Back” returns to the split view.

4. Timeline

The timeline shows all photos, videos and text cards as tiles in the order of the film. “Start” and “End” are fixed at the beginning and the end.

Order and content

Drag a tile with the mouse to a new position (drag & drop).
Drag files from the Finder or Explorer between two tiles. The file is copied into the project folder and inserted at that position.
The X at the top right of a tile (“Remove from timeline”) removes the entry from the film. The file stays in the folder.

Settings per tile

Click a tile. The settings appear on the right:

Duration in seconds (photos and cards). It is quicker directly on the tile: drag the right edge of the tile left or right and the photo or card becomes shorter or longer (0.5–60 s); the value is shown on the tile while dragging, total time and file size follow immediately.
Trimming videos: every video tile has a coloured handle ‹ › on both edges – visible as soon as the tile is selected or the mouse hovers over it. Drag the left handle to the right and the clip starts later (“Trim start”); drag the right handle to the left and it ends earlier (“Trim end”). While dragging, “Start … s · Length … s” is shown on the tile. The panel on the right shows the same values as the fields Start in clip (s) and Duration (s), with the total clip length as a hint; Whole clip restores the untrimmed clip. Export, render and real-time preview start exactly at the chosen start.
Image: Global, Fit or Fill. “Adjust” opens the image editor: zoom slider, move the image with the mouse, “Fit”, “Fill”, “Reset”, “Done”.
Rotate left / Rotate right (in the “Image” block and in the image editor): rotates photos and videos that appear turned, in 90° steps. The tile rotates too; a manual crop is reset. Applies to the preview, the real-time preview and the export.
Motion (Ken Burns): Global, Off, Light, Medium or Strong.
Transition after: the transition to the next entry, next to it its Duration in seconds (0.1–5 s). As long as no own duration is set, the global duration from the start page applies; “Same as global (n s)” resets an own duration.
Place text on this slide: creates a new text layer over exactly this slide (range = the slide’s time, fade in/out 0.5 s) and opens its panel – so “text on image” is reachable from the slide as well.

Images with transparency

PNG files with transparent areas (alpha channel), for example logos or cut-out graphics, stay transparent on import: the tile shows the image in front of a checkerboard. For them the Background block in the panel applies (next paragraph): “Colour” puts a colour area underneath the image, “Blurred” shows the image itself blurred behind it. The colour also lies beneath the transparent areas with “Blurred” and with “Fill”. A PNG without used transparency still counts as a normal photo. Preview, real-time preview and export show the transparency alike.

Background when fitting

If a photo or video does not fill the frame (“Fit” mode, bars top/bottom or left/right), the background lies underneath. The default is set on the start page under “Flow” → Background when fitting: “Colour” (default black) or “Blurred”. In the panel of each tile the Background block offers three choices: Project default (the value from the start page, shown below), Colour with its own colour picker, or Blurred. “Reset” restores the project default. Preview, real-time preview and export show the background identically.

Transitions

The diamond between two tiles opens “Choose transition” right at that cut. Below the list is the Duration field with a slider (0.1–5 s, step 0.1): this gives exactly this transition its own length, for example a long dissolve before a new chapter. An individually set transition or an own duration is highlighted in colour; an own duration also appears as a small number under the diamond (“1.5 s”). “Same as global” resets the transition, “Same as global (n s)” the duration. A right-click on the diamond offers Apply duration to all: this duration becomes the global transition duration and own durations at other diamonds are removed. The additional transitions of the plugin “Transitions Pack Plus” are in the same list below a separator (greyed out without activation); they look identical in proxy preview, real-time preview and export.

A transition can never be longer than the shorter of its two neighbouring slides minus 0.2 s – otherwise the slide would be nothing but transition. If the value is too large, the app shortens it and shows “Shortened to n s”; the Zoom transition is always at most 0.3 s. The transition duration is added to the photo duration: a longer transition makes the film correspondingly longer, the visible hold time of the photos stays the same.

Text cards

Between the photos and videos you can place any number of text cards, for example for chapters, places or dates.

Insert: the “+ Card” button at the top of the timeline inserts a card after the selected tile. Or hover over the diamond between two tiles and click the plus “Insert card here”.
The card appears as a tile with a text symbol and a small preview. It can be dragged like a photo (drag & drop) and removed with the X.
Click the tile – after “+ Card” the new card is already selected. On the right you first see the same settings as on the title card: Title (text, font, size, colour), Subtitle, Position in the grid and Background; below them Duration in seconds and Animation (the text fades in and moves up slightly, as on the title card; off = the text is shown immediately). If the title is empty, the preview shows a dashed guide where the text will appear. The row “Template” (Design Pack Basic) also styles text cards with one click.
Background as three rows to click: “Colour” (colour picker, default anthracite), “Photo” (automatically the previous photo in the timeline, “Choose from photos” from the project or “Upload image”) or “Last image” (the previous photo blurred and darkened, as on the closing card). With “Photo”, the buttons “Rotate left” / “Rotate right” turn the image in 90° steps. New cards use white text; if the text colour is too close to the background colour, the panel shows the note “Text barely visible on this background” with a button that picks white or anthracite.
Logo / element as on the title card: choose image, size, position, opacity; the element fades in with the text.
Transition after works as for photos.

The large preview shows the card immediately – right after “+ Card” and with every change to title or background, without scrubbing; the render preview recalculates its film in the background. Drag the text there with the mouse to the desired position. Total duration and file size include the card. The card appears in both previews and in the export.

Music track

Below the filmstrip lies the music track – on the same time axis as the tiles. Each tile is as wide as its time in the film; the Zoom slider at the bottom right sets the scale. The white line is the playhead of the preview, the dashed line the end of the film.

Each piece of music is a bar with its name and waveform, so you can see where the music sits in the film.

Move: drag the bar left or right. It snaps to slide starts, the end of the film and other bars; hold Alt to drag freely.
Shorten or extend the start: drag the left edge. The end stays, the piece starts later or earlier in the file (“from”).
Shorten or extend the end: drag the right edge – at most up to the end of the music file. A yellow stripe at the right edge means the piece is cut at the end of the film (with fade out).
Fade in / fade out: the two small handles at the top of the bar ends. The dark triangles show the fades.
Crossfade with more music: slide two bars over each other. The overlap is the crossfade – shown hatched, one piece fades out, the other fades in. A gap between two bars is silence.
Loop: if “Loop music if too short” is on, pale bars fill the rest of the film.
Remove: hover over the bar and click the X on the right (also visible while the bar is selected), or right-click → Remove, or press Backspace/Delete with the bar selected. The piece leaves the playlist – the file stays in the project folder. A note “… removed” with Undo appears at the bottom (8 seconds). If the piece has a manually set position, length or its own fades, the app first asks “Remove music piece?”. Following pieces without their own start move up in the chain; manually set positions stay. The right-click menu also offers Reset position.

Clicking a bar opens the music panel on the right with that piece expanded; the same values appear there as numbers (start, length, fade in, fade out, crossfade to previous) and “Reset position” restores the automatic placement. Export, render preview and real-time preview follow this track exactly.

Logo track

Above the filmstrip lies the logo track: one bar per logo layer on the same time axis (chapter 3, “Logo over the slideshow”). A “Whole slideshow” layer spans the entire film length; its bar can be clicked but not dragged. For a section, move the bar with the mouse, and the teal handles at both ends shorten or extend it. The bar snaps to slide starts, the end of the film and other bars; hold Alt to drag freely.

Clicking a bar opens the logo panel on the right with that layer expanded, and a frame appears around the logo in the large preview: drag it to change the position – even while the film is playing. The X on the bar removes the layer (with undo). Clicking the empty track opens the logo panel for adding one.

Text track

Above the logo track lies the text track with one bar per text layer (chapter 3, “Text over the slideshow”), labelled with the title. Operation as in the logo track: move the bar, shorten or extend the edges, snapping, a click selects the layer and shows the text panel on the right; a frame appears around the text in the large preview, which you can drag – even while the film is playing. The X removes the layer (with undo).

Fade in and out by handle – in the logo and the text track: the two small teal handles at the top corners of a bar set the fade in (left) and fade out (right), exactly as for music. The dark triangles show the fade time; drag the handle inwards for longer fades (up to 5 s), fully to the edge for no fade. This also works for “Whole slideshow” layers (fade at the start and end of the film). The “Fade in” and “Fade out” fields in the panel show the same values.

Image tracks

Between the logo track and the filmstrip lie the image tracks (chapter 3, “Image tracks”). + Track adds a new track – at the head of the top track, or in the “Image” row if there is none yet. To place a photo on a track: drag a tile from the filmstrip onto the track, drop a file from Finder onto it, or use “Add image …” / “Choose from photos” in the panel. The image gets 5 seconds from the drop position and appears centred at 40 % width and height.

Operate the bars as in the logo track: move, shorten or extend at the edges, snapping to slide starts, fade handles at the top corners. A click selects the image and shows its panel on the right; the frame of the image area appears in the large preview and can be dragged. The X on the bar removes the image (with undo), the X at the track head removes the track – if it is not empty, the app asks first. The top track sits on top in the picture. Videos also go on image tracks: drag a video tile onto the track, drop a video file from Finder (it is copied into the project folder and prepared without appearing in the sequence) or use “Choose from photos/videos”. The entry is initially as long as the video; if you drag it longer, the last frame is held at the end. In the panel block Video you set Start in clip (trimming, “Whole clip” resets) and switch on Original sound – then the clip's sound plays and the music is lowered in this range as with video slides. The real-time preview animates at most three videos at once (others as still image); export and render preview are complete.

Playhead, time ruler and keyboard

The white line across the tiles and the music track is the playhead: at any zoom level it marks exactly the moment the preview is showing – the tile under the line is the visible slide. While the preview plays, the timeline scrolls along as soon as the line reaches the right edge.

Drag: grab the petrol-coloured triangle at the top of the line and drag it left or right. The preview follows live (render and real-time preview). If playback is running, it pauses while you drag and resumes when you release. At the edge of the visible area the timeline scrolls along.
Time ruler: the narrow strip with second marks above the tiles. A click jumps to that point; dragging in the ruler works like dragging the line. The labels adapt to the zoom level; the dashed mark is the end of the film.
Keyboard: click the time ruler or the film strip, then: ←/→ one frame (1/25 s), Shift+←/→ one second, Home/End start/end of the film. The space bar starts and pauses the preview.

Preview

At the top of the timeline you choose the preview type:

Render (exact): renders the slide exactly as in the export. Takes a few seconds, shows the precise result.
Real-time: plays the film smoothly – with video clips and sound (music, clip sound, ducking) as in the export – and lets you scrub back and forth.

Both have play/pause, a time bar for jumping and a speaker button (“Mute”/“Unmute”) with the “Preview volume” slider. Music with fade in/out and ducking sounds as in the export; the volume applies only to the preview, not to the film.

For the real-time preview the app creates small preview versions of the videos (720p) during import. You switch this on or off in the “View” menu with “Create preview proxies”; the progress is shown in the import line. Without a proxy the real-time preview uses the video in render quality or a still image.

At the bottom you see the total duration and the estimated file size, for example “0:43 total · approx. 22.2 MB”. After the export the size is exact. “Back” returns to the start page; all values are kept.

5. Lumora import

With Lumora import you take photos and videos from an archive of the photo-organising service LUMORA by ortegamedia & style. The Lumora folder is only read.

On the start page click “Choose Lumora archive …”.
Choose archive: select the delivery folder from LUMORA. It contains archiv.html and the folder 10_arbeit.
Selection: filter by period (year, month), people, occasions, videos yes/no and favourites. The app continuously shows “N photos · M videos · estimated duration”. Favourites come from the file “Lumora-Aenderungen-….json”. You create it in the Lumora dashboard with “Save my changes”.
Transfer: “Copy into project folder” stores copies in the subfolder lumora. The project stays a complete folder. “Link” only points to the Lumora folder and needs no space.

After the transfer the app suggests a title, applies the “Memories” preset and uses the first photo as the title image. Tiles from the archive carry the mark “from LUMORA”.

If a linked Lumora folder is missing later (for example an external drive not connected), “Relink” appears on the start page. Use it to choose the new location.

6. Export

Click “Export”.
A window shows the progress: Preparing, Rendering, Done. “Cancel” stops the export. Temporary files are deleted; no half-finished video is left behind.
The finished film is stored in the subfolder export of the project folder as MP4 (H.264, AAC audio).
The message “The film is ready.” shows file, duration, file size and render time. “Show in Finder” opens the folder, “Play” plays the film.

Before starting you choose the resolution: Full HD (1920 × 1080) or – with the “Export UHD” plugin or the full version – UHD (3840 × 2160); UHD needs about four times the render time and file size. Without a licence the dialog points to the trial-version watermark (chapter 7).

Each export file is named “<title>_<16x9 or 9x16>_<date>.mp4”; a second export on the same day replaces the file of the same name.

7. Updates & plugins

Licence

Without a licence, Lumora Motion runs as a trial version: all functions are available, and the exported film carries the watermark “Lumora Motion – Testversion” in the bottom right corner (also visible in the preview). The footer reads “no licence (trial version)”. After purchasing on vrf.ch you receive a folder with the licence file “ortegamedia_motion_XXXX.omlic”, a text block (“….textblock.txt”) and a short guide.

Menu “Licence” → “Load licence file …” and choose the .omlic file. Alternatively “Paste licence text block …”: copy the content of the text block file into the field and click “Apply”.
The app checks the signature and confirms: “Licence ortegamedia_motion_XXXX for … loaded.” The article number appears in the footer and in the “About Lumora Motion” window (with licensee, update entitlement and product).
The watermark disappears from the next export on.

The licence is bound to you as the customer and is valid for Mac and Windows. Keep the licence file – after a reinstallation you load it again. The article number is your product reference for every later purchase on vrf.ch.

Packages & licence

The “Packages & licence” window (menu “Licence” or button in the About window) shows licensee, article number, update entitlement and product (basic or full version, unlocked plugins) as well as the table of installed packages: reference, name, function, version, date and an “Active” switch per plugin. A switched-off plugin stays installed; its function is locked until switched on again.

Updates

One update year is included with the purchase (“Update entitlement until”). After that you buy the update year on vrf.ch and receive an update package (“upd_<version>_<article number>.zip”) and the installer of the new version.

Menu “Licence” → “Install package …” and choose the ZIP file (or the button “Install package …” in the “Packages & licence” window).
The app checks signature and article number, extends the update entitlement and takes over a new user guide if included. Licence, plugins and projects are kept.
Then install the new version with the installer.

If the installed app is newer than your update entitlement, “Update entitlement expired” appears at start-up with the buttons “Buy update (vrf.ch)”, “Load licence”, “Install package” and “View only”. In view-only mode you can open and view projects; export is locked until the update package is loaded.

No package can be installed without a licence. The app rejects a package with a different article number, an unsigned or a modified package – nothing is installed.

Plugins

Plugins extend the app. They are customer-bound packages (“plg_<id>_<article number>.zip”) and are installed the same way as updates:

Design Pack Basic: six card templates – Classic (Playfair Display / Source Serif 4, gold line), Modern (Montserrat / Inter, mint bar), Elegant (Playfair Display / Manrope, champagne frame), Family (Source Serif 4 / Inter, badge, flourish), Presentation (Inter, petrol badge, corner), Travel (Montserrat / Manrope, compass). Each template sets colours, font pair, sizes, position, badge and ornament on title, end and text cards as well as on text layers (row “Template”); the automatic mode picks the matching template.
Transitions Pack Plus: 18 additional transitions – Diagonal wipe ↖ / ↘, Circle open, Circle close, Diamond, Box open, Blinds horizontal, Blinds vertical, Stripes, Curtain open, Curtain close, Clock wipe, Mosaic, Wave, Flash, Soft dissolve, Zoom punch, Pixelate – in the transition selection on the start page, at the diamond and in the tile panel. They look identical in export, proxy preview and real-time preview (the real-time preview computes the same formula as the export). Note: “Pixelate” and “Zoom punch” need a little more rendering time in the export.
Text on Image: ten animated text templates for text layers – caption, big title, date/place, quote with badge, chapter, typewriter, wipe reveal, subtitle bar, soft fade in, bottom-right corner (row “Animation” in the Text block, chapter 3). Export, proxy preview and real-time preview compute the same time functions.
Export UHD: resolution “UHD (3840 × 2160)” in the export dialog.
Lumora-Import: section “Load files from LUMORA” on the start page (chapter 5).

8. Tips & help

No cloud folder: do not put the project folder in iCloud Drive, Dropbox, OneDrive or Google Drive. Sync services disturb the watch folder and the export. The app warns about such folders.
Windows and iPhone files: for HEIC photos and HEVC videos, Windows needs two extensions from the Microsoft Store: “HEIF Image Extensions” (free) and “HEVC Video Extensions” (paid, about one franc; many PCs already have the free “HEVC Video Extensions from Device Manufacturer”). If they are missing, the app says so on the affected file – import the file again after installing.
Large projects: with more than 100 photos the export takes longer. Leave the window open.
Diagnostics: in case of an error, “Diagnostics” in the Help menu creates a log file with system and render details. Send it to support together with your question. [BITTE PRÜFEN: Menüpfad Diagnose]
No data transfer: Lumora Motion works entirely locally and sends no data.

9. Web version (Lumora Motion Online)

Lumora Motion also runs in the browser: Lumora Motion Online on vrf.ch. Same interface, same preview, same film – no installation, on Mac, Windows and iPad.

Your files stay with you. Photos, videos and music are never uploaded. The browser renders the film on your device and keeps the project in its own storage; you download the finished MP4.
Annual access. Lumora Motion Online is a separate product (12 months from payment, in your vrf.ch account). With valid access you get the full scope including all plugins. Without access the web version runs in trial mode: try everything, export with a watermark.
Browsers. Current Chrome and Edge are the first choice – they write the film straight to a file. Safari works without “Lockdown Mode”; Firefox exports audio as Opus instead of AAC. Keep the tab visible while exporting.
What differs from the desktop app. There is no project folder and no watch folder: pick files with “Choose photos and videos” or drag them into the window (Chrome/Edge also whole folders). No proxy preview “Render (exact)” – the real-time preview is the only mode. No UHD, no Lumora import, no packages or licence files (access comes from your account). HEIC photos are read by Safari only; otherwise save them as JPEG.
Exchanging projects. “Save” downloads a .lumo file, “Open” reads one – including projects from the desktop app. Media are matched by file name.

Chapters 2 to 6 apply to the web version unchanged; chapters 5 and 7 concern the desktop app only.
